As an entrepreneur, I see this as a direct point of connection: freedom means responsibility. For my family, this means we can determine our lives and our values ourselves \u2013 and actively help shape the country in which my children grow up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The historic moment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On the eve of independence, <strong>Jawaharlal Nehru<\/strong> gave his legendary speech \u201c<strong>Tryst with Destiny<\/strong>,\u201d in which he spoke of the dawn of a new India. He became the country\u2019s first Prime Minister. At the same time, Pakistan was founded with <strong>Muhammad Ali Jinnah<\/strong> as its leader.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Joy and sorrow<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While celebrations took place in the cities, the partition brought a humanitarian catastrophe. Millions of people were displaced across the new border, and hundreds of thousands lost their lives in the religious unrest. The joy over freedom was inextricably linked with deep sorrow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Significance to this day<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Today, <strong>August 15<\/strong> is a national holiday, celebrated with flag ceremonies, parades, and the Prime Minister\u2019s address from the Red Fort in Delhi.
